10 speed cassette on 8 speed hub?

Hi,
As title suggests I've been given a set of Alex rims TD17 wheels that currently have an 8 speed cassette on them. Can I swap this for a 10 speed or is the 10 speed cassette wider? I'd like to use these as a spare set of wheels for commuting.
