Olympics in french?

ok granted the Olympics started ages ago now but why are all the announcements in french then English?

is it because the IOC is based in France?

    Modern Olympics was invented by a Frog I believe, so its in deference to that.

    its because the Olympics are only watched by the middle classes and we all apeak French fluently so ce n'est pas un problem, non?

    They'd been doing Olympic style stuff for a few decades before it took off internationally.
