Bike ~£150-200

Hey,
My friend is after a bike for around £150-200, for none heavy use on road and dirt paths.
He is happy with V breaks and no suspension (i advised perhaps just front suspension).
Does any know any reputable models with good; frame / gear set / wheels?
Edit: Do you think a BMX might be a good option, low maintenance, cheaper, less to go wrong?
Thanks

You may be better off with no suspension at that price, it will just add weight and feel like a pogo stick.0

I think that Fork does have some preload, so it shouldn't be "that" terrible. I'd prefer a rigid at that price-point though.0

Preload won't make much difference, its the damping that counts.0
