I quite fancy some of those specially round wheels used by British racers.

I was particlarly impressed with Sir Chris Hoy's dad's insight

When I had a brief chat with Mr Hoy snr at the test event, he didn't seem to have a lot of time for Bauge, to put it midly.

Did you see the specially wide forks too? They are so that after the Olympics the track team can fit the wheels from Surley Pugsleys and actually invade France by riding straight across the channel.

I did notice during one of the interviews that team GB support staff were walking past the back of the shot carrying wheels in black Planet X bags with the world champ rings on themwhich confirms that British Cycling do their shopping at Chain Reaction just like i do.

I was surprised as i thought it would all be a bit more upmarket than that (or is that all part of the cunning ploy?)

Brilliant line from the French track coach:

Referring to a French make of wheel, she asked:

“Do they really have Mavic wheels?”

    hoy1.jpg

Let me f*ckingwell guess......do you really think they would advertise the fact if they were not Mavic wheels?

Re-badging happens a lot in cycling.

Lance Armstrong's Time trial bike were often litespeed and he used HED wheels, but they were badged up as Trek and Bonty respectively.

The point (not terribly well presented by me) was; would Dave Brailsford actually tell anyone if they were not Mavic wheels?

Serious question.....do they balance the wheels on the top end bikes? I note that all of my bikes vibrate strongly in the work stand if you spin up the rear wheel hard due to imbalances (valve stem particularly). That must be sucking some joules even though it would not be felt when riding.

You got the money you can buy the gear

As with road cycling all the gear has to be commercially available - why don't the french just contact UK sport?

Have I missed something or are the wheels not on there? They must be Mavic by build then....i.e. no 'magique'...

That was a point clarified by Brailsford irrc - ie that if the wheels had been special, they'd have been on the website.

What intrigued me when I went to watch was the number of seemingly non current Look frames being used. Some were using the current production frames in production paint jobs but a good half the riders seemed to be on older Mondrian painted Looks of various vintages. Some even had the old Look typeface which implies they must be a good four years old. It made me wonder if they are rented but it seems odd.

    Mavic/Magic it's only one letter out ;-)

Why do the French stupidly think we would use illegal kit and therefore have the possibility of being found out and all the championships taken off us. yeah right

Swiss? At least that's where the headquarters are.

As for the under performance of the French, Bauge's drug ban anything to do with it?
