In Search of a Tough 26" Tyre

Hi All,
A similar thread to this has undoubtedly been created before, so I apologise for repeating it.
I am also aware that tyre choice can be personal, and I would very much appreciate it if people could list their commuting tyres of choice.
I am currently running a tough old MTB with Continental Travel Contact City tyres (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/continental-travel-contact-city-mtb-tyre/), but the rear one is in need of replacement.
The commute is only 4 miles each way but the roads are poorly maintained and generally covered in debris, so puncture resistance is my main priority.
Any input is appreciated. My thanks in advance,
Matt

I use the Sports Contact version (full slicks) on my commuting MTB.
Tried Specialized Armadillo semi slicks (can't remember which model), but found them far too heavy and the tread pattern sprayed water into my face. I had to switch the front tyre around, but it still sprayed.2007 Felt Q720 (the ratbike)

I Use these on my MTB have traveled hundreds of miles on the rough canal paths and I have never had a single punture.

I've been using Schwalbe Marathons for a good few hundred miles of commute with no issues. There's a newer version with a rubber layer, rather than kevlar punture protection. The Marathon Plus has even more puncture protection but you, apparently, lose speed due to extra rolling resistance.0

Schwalbe Marathon Plus, super tough.0

If you want to stick with Conti's, the DoubleFighters are good. I bought mine from Halfords and they were good value. I even used them for touring, lugging a trailer around Europe.Ecrasez l’infame0

I use Specialized Armadillo Crossroads tyres for winter commutes (Nov-March), which are usually on-road:

I use Specialized "The Captain" tyres for the rest of the year:

They're fast rolling on hard-packed trails but they do lose grip when the going's either wet or the surface is loose.
Both benefit from puncture protection but "The Captain" tyres are a bit prone to attack by thorn!

Marathon XR? Completely indestructible, but very heavy. I took them on a tour through Ladakh in 2008 and the same tyres are still in use every day on my commute.0

Id stick with the conti travel contacts i dont think they can be beaten for commuting and light off road use , they are light 500g very puncture proof and roll well . ive commuted 120 miles a week on them over the 2 years ive had them and had one puncture great tyres. The family that rides together stays together !
