Just fitted a new 9 speed chain to my Carrera Fury 2010 model.

Chains the same length as before but now it slips as I put presure on. Any ideas?

Thanks

Possibly the chain is the wrong size - you need to measure it on the bike, not against the old one which will be stretched.
Or more likely the cassette needs replacing.

You should really replace the chain and cassette at the same time, as they mesh together and wear at the same rate.

Not really, just before the wear in one damages the other.

It's not just the cassette either, the chainrings will often fail to mesh with a new chain.

Some people say to buy cheap chains and replace often - I prefer to just ride the same chain/sprockets and chainrings until they're absolutely totally buggered, then replace the lot.
I usually get about 2 or 3 years out of a set.
  • I had to replace my cassette when I got a new chain. New chain went fine when there was no pressure on it, ie on the stand, then as soon as you took it out on a ride and put some force through it it just skipped off. (I bought the bike 2nd hand and it had been well used).
