New cassette

Hi folks.

It's time to change my well used Tiagra drive train on my Allez, but I was curious about cassette gearings.

Looking online, I can see for example ultegra cassettes come In quite a range from 11-21 to 14-25. Would I notice an increase in pace by going from 12-25 to a 11-21?

Because I live in a fairly hilly area I was thinking more of the 11-23, but would the whole single tooth less, make much of a difference? Not that it matters really as theyre all the same price but I'm working on my fitness mainly, but if there are components that can give a marginal edge to my pace then that's good.

What do you use now 12/25? and how do you do on the hills?

If you are just Ok on the 25 then 11/21 is a big jump and many people on here go for as big as a 28 for hills.

12/25 is the most common I would suggest and if you are not running out of speed on the 12 then why bother with the 11.

Stick with 12-25 as you live in a hilly area.

An 11t sprocket is for very seriously good riders, most of us wouldn't be able to use one to any effect unless it was to show off about your top speed on a descent.

Unless you're consistently spinning out on the 12-tooth sprocket you're not going to get a speed gain without increasing your torque.

    Cheers guys.

To be honest, I rarely spin out on the 12 so I guess it is pointless really, was just curious if it would make a difference if I had it there to use. But i guess then you'd need to be cranking the pedals over as fast as you do with a 12 to get any benefit. It's not like I'm racing anyway so I'll just stick with the 12/25.

    Thanks all...
