As a sporting nation we're getting stronger and gold medals per head of capita we must beat the USA and China, perhaps not Khazakstan though. :D

    The sad thing is that post-Olympics the press will go back to only talking about football and our highly successful lottery funded athletes will, bar one or two, fall back into relative obscurity.

    As far as I'm concerned lottery funding is worth every penny. I know of a few people who say they've been inspired by the Olympics (and our successes) to take up cycling or other sports. A few million on funding could end up saving us billions in healthcare and other costs related to people who don't look after themselves physically.
