Borrowdale Bash

Thinking I might tackle this next week. I believe there's a fair bit of road riding, so I'm wondering about tyre choice. I can pick between a Nobby Nick evo out back, or a Racing Ralph. Given the road/off road ratio, what would be the best choice? Or should I toss a coin and shut the folk up?

I just ride it on either Minions(SuperTackey/60a on the FS) or Prowlers(HT) I prefer to have grip on the (rather good) descents and can put up with a bit of drag on the tarmac :)
Then again I only ever swap tyres when they need replacing 8)

Nobby Nick will be fine. Not too growly on the round and there is nothing superslippy to ride off road. Racing Ralph is a bit fragile for the Lakes its good tyre wrecking country lots of sharp slatey rock.

Hopefully doing the Borrowdale and or Skiddaw Skedaddle next week. Staying in South Lakes for a few days and got lots of great riding inside an hours drive.

  • Cheers for the advice, Nobby nick it is then. Weather looks pretty decent next week so I fancy tackling a natural ride. Doing Go Ape at Grizedale next week too, not mtb I know but looks pretty good nonetheless.

Go Ape is brilliant best fun you can have that doesnt involve a bike or a bed.

  • Did the bash today, what a day for it! It's a good route, didn't think there was too much road riding to be honest. I can definitely feel my tyres dragging me down on the climbs though, I got the NN evo on the back and a panaracer rampage at the front, confidence inspiring definitely, but heavyish and sticky on the road!

Managed to do quite a lot of the downs, but hopped off when it got a bit too much, I always go for the safe option when riding alone. If I can't manage the homebaked steps at Gisburn after this though, I'm gonna scrap my bike and get a new hobby!

And did Go Ape earlier in the week; what a great day out that is, especially the last Tarzan swing and the long zip wires

I did the Bash yesterday forgot my midge cream though and now got more spots than a Leopard. The weather was brilliant and the first pint of real ale in the pub sizzled down. Summer has finally arrived.

Don't know how well known this is, but I've been told that "Avon skin so soft" is the best fly repellant. Some walkers I work with swear by it, even against Scottish midges, and it's worked for me so far. The SAS use it apparently!

It was the Avon I forgot. It does work except when its standing on the kitchen worktop 120 miles away
