Chains and powerlinks

I am after a new chain as mine has stretched, I havent had it for that long maybe 3-4 months but it was a cheaper chain. I use the bike everyday for commuting and probably weekly for mountain biking.

My current chain has powerlinks, could I buy a new XTR 10 speed chain and put the powerlinks on it? Is a more expensive chain more resistant to stretching? I would assume so.

I don't know much about chains except that you need the same speed as your bike so any advice would be much appreciated

Cheers

10spd powerlocks are one time use.
KMC 10spd missing links can be used more than once.

the more expensive a chain the lighter and less durable it is in general.

if you are getting through chains that fast i would buy more at a lower cost.

I've got like the sram powerlinks style, how long do chains last you?

power links are 9spd and multi use.
powerlocks are 10spd and single use.

how long is a piece of string.

have trashed a chain in a day. some have lasted a year or so. some years......
and some a few months it all depends on useage and conditions.

    Good point, fair enough

I got mine with a 10 speed chain i bought but they are definitely multi-use, so you've confused me now! can you put them on any chain though? assuming its the same speed obviously

if it is a Sram Powerlock (black) is is one use only as it deforms of fitting and fails on removal.

like i said KMC are a different design.

and generaly as long as the speed is the same you can be ok.
