My wife says I can spend £2k on an n+1 bike when I weigh 16 stone - the only two problems are I currently weigh 19.5 stones and we don't have £2k. Still it's an inspiration and the last time I weighed myself on the machine at Tesco's I had lost a stone and was 2 inches shorter - so if that keeps up it will be n+1 on a kids bike for me soon :D

Heh! Well kids bikes are cheaper, so that could be a good thing!

Great news on the weight loss - I found having a target is really good as a motivator - after all - you have to want to lose it. Great start, and keep it up.

Won't be long till you're back here asking us for advice on what bike to get - I'd recommend anything by Isla Bikes!!
Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...

I started cycling when over 16.5 stone.

Used this as kick start - http://www.juicemaster.com/7lbs-in-7-Da ... Juice-Diet. Never mind all the healthy, superfood clap trap, I found the Psyllium really helped me not to snack and lost a stone in just over two weeks. ANd have never seen that stone again!

Within a year I was just over 13 stone.

There is no way to be subtle here, but if you cut back a bit on the stuff that caused the weight gain, maybe you could save up for the bike!

Sorry if you don't eat too much or drink beer and have a medical reason for being over weight based on the size of your bones/metabolism/pie addiction/genetics :D

Congratulations on what you've achieved so far and keep it up, it is SO worth it! I've gone from 17 stone to 13 and I would dearly love to loose another 2! The bad news is that loosing weight costs money - I've gone from 40" waist trousers to 34", I've had to buy new jackets and new shirts. That's before we start talking about all the cycling clothes

Nice problem to have though and I was delighted when I found a pair of XXL bib-shorts were too big for me recently - roll on size L :) The only way I ever thought I would be an XL again was if I moved to the US.

My XXL ones are starting to look a bit loose now so I bought some L ones. I could get them on, but they were cutting off blood flow...

the depressing thing about cycling is that when you think you are a slim, or normal size, you discover you are in fact i the 'super lardy' category when buying cycling clothing

  • 16 stone? Only 6 to go here. But as I'm starting from the other end I'd better get munching these fish and chips. :P

But good luck with the diet!

In 3 months I've got down from (Altura sizes) XXL being comfortable to L being just-about-wearable (although not in the office or front of pretty ladies on grounds of indecency).

Don't worry about the jesting, just look forward throwing your leg over a new machine.

You'll have to go shopping for some new lycra too.

    FIFY.

Just joking. I got on the bike because of expanding waistline and a cheese habit I didn't want to kick into touch, though I'd only made it into the low 14s.

The sportswear designed for twiglets happens everywhere. My swimming shorts are XL to fit a 35" waist...

Currently cycling 45-50 miles a day commuting to work. Losing weight for a 20 mile 7000ft climb in Tenerife is the motivation. Also saving a few bob in petrol.
