Just looking for opinions really :) I have bought a black bike (black frame, bars and seat) which has Celeste accents. I was going to get black shoes but they look so boring. I like the pimpy white ones. Will they look out of place with my black bike though? The shoes are Bontrager RL btw. I know this is a totally superficial subjective tart question - but I have found that since I ordered my road bike I have become a superficial tart :)

Yes, white shoes are the only acceptable shoe colour in any circumstances.

Black shoes & black socks should never be worn

I have checked with the Velorati rules and can see no clear ruling :( Need more opinions please!

I ride white Bontrager RL's with a black bike. Pretty sure it makes me faster :P

  • Wear whatever you want. Worrying about how you look on the bike is just daft.

I’ve got red Sidi’s that I wear with white or black socks and black Sidi’s that I wear with red, white or black socks. Diss me for this and I’ll drop you on the next climb.

The Velominati website is not THE RULES*.

Greatdivide - red and black is a great combo (see a-team van). Your post is like saying I don't care about brand names. I wear Armani. Wear what you want. You my friend are a natural stylisto!

Grill - very good to hear. Excellent post.

My white expensive shoes look scrappy after 2000 dry miles. My black Aldi shoes look almost new after 10000 miles in all weathers.

White shoes are a bit like white bar tape - an unneccessary complication in life.

Honestly speaking - I didn't think about that. Hmmm. Practicality vs tartiness.. a TOUGH one!

    That would contravene rule 21.

The real answer is to have an old pair of white shoes that you wear when the weather looks a bit dodgy, and a nice pair of white shoes that you wear when there's not even the slightest chance of rain. It takes a while to achieve this level of awesome though, but it sounds like you have potential.

White shoes all the way, but I want to know why know one has asked 'what the hell sort of colour is celeste ??!?!'

Team in breaking news I can report that my bike options have just opened up and I may be looking at a white red and black bike. The shoe matching opportunities are extremely exciting and I don't know if I will be able to sleep tonight. Dramatic stuff.

    +1 for white shoes!

I wear white Specialized shoes with my black bike. Only problem is that most white shoes have red accents on them, which I hate. I am zebra all the way!
  • Why don't you people take up figure skating? You could wear your white shoes and a nice spangly outfit as well?

You mean to say that you don't have sequined jerseys to match your Lamé bib-shorts? If you're out and about, you might as well Peacock it up a bit.

As it goes, white shoes are boss. White and red are better, as the red bits make you go faster. Match the kit, but don't try to match the kit to your bike as you'll look like an idiot.

Zomba - ahh now THAT is fine advice. I will stop trying to match the kit to my bike. I have seen some lovely white and red shoes which also have black bits in them to give an even bigger speed burst.

The photo on the right looks okay.

The photo on the left is shocking. It reminds me of a Paris rugby team, Stade Francais, who wear the most vile pink kit on purpose just to get free publicity (the fact i'm writing about them means it worked).

  • White accessories are good for making you visible to other road users.I have a white helmet, gloves and bar tape, also never wear a dull top.
Minor details but they all add up.
  • This is a simple choice. What about if you own a Bianchi Veloce of some sort ............ where to go to get a blue that matches. Or do you stick with white. Such dilemma's.
