When I was younger, there was a very vertain smell during certain times of the year which was........the above and for some reason around flora [although never found out which ones]. IMO, this then dissappeared for quite some time.........a bit like white dog doo-doo in the street, until recently.

Am In the only that has noticed this and it's return? Even the wife [who is more of an expert than me] confirms the current whiff although she cannot recall it back in the day. This I am pleased about as she is younger than me...............

Also noticed a recurrence of this smell over the last couple of weeks and also glad to hear it's not just me that can smell it!

Wife and I first spotted it on holiday in Turkey about 7 or 8 years ago and by the end of the two weeks we had sort of convinced ourselves that the building nearest to the smell was a knocking shop! Although it was clearly a plant of some description...
  • Are you sure you're not just frequenting popular dogging sites. :D

Linden trees. Mitchell and Webb did a sketch on it. If memory serves me right, Ivy in bloom can smell a bit like a stiff stain too.

So eh, has anyone else smelled what I presume is manure spread on fields, that's like an extremely sweet smell, almost pleasant?

In the days when I used to work as a chemistry lab technician, we used to have a chemical on the shelves which I think was called "spermidine" as a 'trivial' name. (Someone will put me right I'm sure.)

This smelt like sounds if you just got a faint whiff, in larger concentrations it literally made you retch.

The lecturer in organic chemistry used to delight in passing it around a room full of students and seeing who recognized the smell.

The favourite reaction was a young lady.."oh yes, I know that smell,..... [sniff] now what is it?, ....{sniff} it's on the tip of my tongue".

The older I get, the better I was.
