There was a thread here not very long ago recommending cheap stands of ebay. Have a bit of a trawl through the pages or else someone might hopefully have a link to the stand.

I have the Ribble one... it's good enough for most jobs. I've built up a couple of bikes using it.

They all look like the same stand sold under different names, I have one of those with Edinburgh cycles on it. Got it on offer for £50. Does the job but if I need to get much leverage on something (like getting a bb off) then I need to get the bike off the stand as it's just not sold enough and I'd end up push the bike and stand round the kitchen. Good for most jobs though and I use it a lot.
