Cheap aero helmet, taped vents.

Has anyone tried taping up the vents on a standard road helmet for a time trial, rather than spending a load of money on an aero helmet? Does it make much of a difference to your average speed, and what is it like heat wise to wear?

Vents are only part of the story with aero helmet's.............0

you could also cut down a traffic cone and tape it to the back of your helmet...... :roll:0

If these are for your local club 10s then I really wouldn't bother. If it's for a more serious competition...Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0

Cling film would be lighter than tape.0

Ive used a mixture of cling film and selotape. Affect? / Improvement?
Im not sure but i get the odd boil in the bag comments at the start line. I feel faster in my mind though!

I've done it in the past. Not sure if it made much difference, but given the margins at stake were only seconds, it could have certainly helped!Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

Try some heat film that model aeroplanes put on the wings. It's cheap and shouldn't affect the polystyrene. But don't hold me to that if your head explodes in a crash.0
