Hi

I'm looking for a new road bike and I'm not sure if I should get the Cannondale Supersix with 105 or the Focus Izalco Pro 3.0 with Ultegra.
I would use the bike for long rides (50+ miles) so it should be comfortable.

Thanks

Are you sure you can still get hold of the Focus? When I was looking a couple of weeks ago the dealer didn't have any and said they couldn't get them from Focus.

    Not sure that helps but....
  • I love the Cannondale Supersix frame. Great geometry, looks great, and nice paint job. I am sure the Focus is also good, but I prefer brands that more people are familiar with

my vote to the dale with touch of bias.

I would be owning one right now if i didn't become the owner of the litening by pure accident!

I once spoke to the ex-cannondale rep - he left because of the stream of post sale quality related issues and refunds being depressingly high, so Focus - also bike of the year with Cycling plus is it not?

I love the look of the Cannondale supersix but you get alot more bang for your buck with the Focus, I've got a Focus Izalco and can''t fault that frame, iI always seem to be drawn to a Cannondale but i'm yet to buy one.

I was brooding over the Supersix or the Focus. A Supersix 4 '12 it was then.

What eventually tipped the scale was a bargain deal I stumbled upon and, regardind the Focus in general, the lack of dealers around my place (Vienna, Austria) where I could try out the bike and get to know the correct frame size for me.

1,400 for a Supersix from Westbrook Cycles. Too good to turn down. Both great bikes.

I was looking around the web and found the trek madone 3.5 and it looks quite good also.
  • Bottom line is they are all good bikes. Get the one that your most comfortable on and the one that excites you the most. Love my Trek 4.5 by the way.

I mentioned this on another post and got shot down by all the 'Cannondale' luvvies out there, but ive heard the same thing from a few shop mechanics friends of mine. The quality of Cannondales isnt as great as it used to be and they had more of that make needing repairs than any other model.

Personally i would go with the Focus, better spec and across the range they are superb. Have you also looked at Cube bikes? also in the same bracket as Focus and get a lot for your money. I wouldnt touch the Cannondale if it was me.

I guess I'm risking here to labelled a "Cannondale luvvy" here but your last remark seems rather exaggerated. On the other hand, maybe you have some kind of allergy and you must not touch Cannondales.

I think you will find that a brand most people have not heard of is actually a product, not a brand at all.

A brand only exists if people know about it - that's the point.

Cannondale are both a good product (especially the hand made in USA variants) and a brand.

If you're near london go to Swift Cycles and try both. They are really helpful and knowledgeable.

o.k just got back from riding up and down the north lakes in italy , got talking bikes they have never heard of boardman bikes ,does that mean its not a brand ? does that mean there no good ? brands are not always world wide ,they can be regional . i know after all i am a design and brand manager !

nothing against cannys i have ridden them since the early 90's as mountain bikes , i was just pointing out that some manufactures that are not common in the u.k. can be missed and are just as good if not better . :D
