Hi,
I'm looking for advice / recommendations on a good MTB to purchase for around £400 or under.
I am 6'1 ish, so looking at a 21'' frame.
It's going to be used predominantly for road and also cycle-path usage, nothing too heavy.
I've found a few I like, but would appreciate some comments, or suggestions.
At present, my favourite is the Ridgeback MX6 2012 which I have found for £349.

Any links?
I'd look for a Rockrider or a Carrera/Voodoo at this price point.2011 Carrera Fury

You may or may not be a 21 inch depending on the model, geo varies enormously.
Take a look at the Voodoo Bantu, Carrera Vulcan and Decathlon Rockrider 8.0.0 -
Might be able to get a voodoo hoodoo for that money if there are any halfords codes this month.0

Hi guys, thanks for the tips.
The Voodoo Hoodoo is £499.99 less £40 this week on Halfords, but still a little expensive.
The Ridgeback one is at: www.ukbikesdepot.com/m15b0s2p7085/RIDGE ... 2012%29%0A0 -
The MX6 is ok for that money, was never worth the rrp though! Voodoo Bantu is a better bet.0
-
....is the MX6 good value at £349?
Is the spec better than the Voodoo?
Thanks!0 -
I don't think so - the Voodoo gets a much better air fork.0

If you join British Cycling using code TforL and using Direct Debit, it works out £10.80 for a year and gives you 10% off at Halfords. This would reduce the voodoo by another £46 making it only £414 - an absolute bargain (or £424.80 if you add in the cost of BC membership).0 -
For info, I went for the Ridgeback MX6 2012.
Happy with it, looks ok - I'm no expert, so the components really don't look bad to me, apart from the plastic pedals! - put it together last night, and will have a little ride tonight - probably didn't pop the wheel on correctly, so might find myself under the wheels of a bus later.
Thanks for all your help / comments.0
