Hi everyone been thinking of getting new wheels for a while now to make the bike a bit lighter and spin up the hills better hopefully ,

anyway ive narrowed it down to 2 sets , the 1st off superstarts site where kindly recommended by supersonic and they look great and are pretty light 1650g with the crest rims ,
stans crest rims on switch evo hubs
http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=496

The 2nd are the fulcrum red metal 5 s that where nearly £180 but old stock so going at £99 at the mo on fleabagbay
They weigh 1805 g

the fulcrum are a bit heavier according to the sites by150g but could be a big saving of £120 and im pretty poor at the mo are the superstar wheels worth double ? thanks for your help

I have the RM5's (they were £89 on On One sale a year or two back).
They have been superb, especially for the price.
Saying that, parts are not readily available, and stupidly expensive if something goes wrong. I am quite heavy and they have stood up to any abuse I could give them, but if a freehub or something goes it will cost.
Only thing I've had go was a spoke, and they need ordering in, but I got some Sapim CX rays which work perfectly. (flat bladed)

If I had ready cash I'd probably get the Superstar for weight and ease of getting bits, but on a budget the RM's are a good deal - excellent freehub with more teeth than usual so take up is instant, good bearings (well still smooth after a few years of nasty conditions) and an interesting? spoke pattern.

At the price I paid I looked at them as disposables but they've suprised me.

But I bet SS will be along to find something stupidly cheap on Merlin.

The RM5 are a bit heavier than quoted, 1805g is for the centrelock version, are more like 1850g.
