Pedals for small feet?

Can anyone recommend a set of pedals for a rider with small feet?
My son is 12 and has narrow, size 2.5 feet. The pedals that came with his bike (GT Avalanche) are massive! I have put DMR V8s on for now but even they are way too big for his feet.
The platform of most flat pedals is so large that there is too much room for error with regards to his foot placement. This means he often ends up pedalling with his heels and his ankles splayed, neither of which are good for efficiency or his joints.

Only 60mm wide and the spindle takes up quite a large portion of the quoted 100mm width by the looks of it0 -
