Front Derailleur Issues

Hi,

I need some advice on problems with my front derailleur (compact group set), when I am out riding I cannot move from the small cog to the big cog with the front derailleur unless I am on the smallest couple of cogs on the cassette.

However when I get the bike up on the stand at home it changes fine on all the cogs on the cassette.

Is this usual, do I just try and increase the tension gradually while out riding?

    What's the groupset?

    Follow the instructions on the park tools website to set up the front derailleur:

    When I say "follow the instructions", I mean word for word - don't try and troubleshoot using them!

    If you still can't get things working, it may be that the cage is bent.

    It could potentially be the width of the bottom bracket as well, have a look at the chain line and check that it isn't too steep.
