I'm looking to purchase a new bicycle under the Bike2work scheme so I'm limited to £1,000. I'm looking for a road bike which although it needs to be fast has to be comfortable as I regularly ride 50/60 + miles in a day. I've discounted models with a specific race frame geometry so have narrowed down my choice to 3 about which I'd appreciate your opinions. The only change I'd make to the standard configuration is to fit the Brooks saddle off my old Dawes Giro. Anyhow, here are my 3 possibles:

Merida 94 Road Lite

Giant Defy 1

Cannondale Synapse 105

Many thanks

Michael

i would have thought it would be between the giant and cannondale, the defy gets really good reviews but its a personal thing and would get the synapse.

have you tried any of them?

some bikes under a grand can get very similar spec and sometimes its down to the fit of the rider.
  • I have last year's Synapse 105 and love it. Quick and responsive enough, plus great level of 'all-day' comfort - especially once you upgrade tyres, saddle, seatpost, etc. Also has mounts and clearance for proper guards, making it an ideal candidate for winter duties when the inevitable n+1 rule kicks in .

Tyres would be the first thing to look at on the upgrade front - the Luganos that come with it are crap.
