Why are kitchen bins so expensive

We need a new kitchen bin.

We previously had one of those faux Barbantia ones from Woolworths. Cost me £30, Ms DDD threw it out for some reason. So, I'm in the market for a new bin.

Something wide so the bin bag can actually be filled, easy access and a system that holds the bin bag open so one side of it doesn't fall into the bin and then all future rubbish lobbed into the bin doesn't slide down the outside of the bag and to the bottom of the bin - I hate that I do.

Oh and stainless steel would be nice. I'm not sure when, why or how stainless bins came into fashion. I'm not sure of the benefits, what are they? But honestly £100 - £200+ for a bin, why? What are the benefits of having a stainless steel bin or this like having a SMEG frige/freezer? Why are Barbantia bins so expensive? What bin should I buy and how much do you think is a reaonable price for a bin?

It hold rubbish it doesn't need to be so effing expensive!

I have a Brabantia stainless steel bin. Have had it years, still looks good as new. It was expensive, but not £100 expensive I don't think. Probably cost less than the three or four cheap imitations we got through before buying it, if you add them all together. I don't know why they are so much better than the alternatives, but in my experience they are which I guess explains the price.

Try lowering the snob value of the shops you are looking in.
Supermarkets, Ikea etc all do stainless steel bins. Mostly under £15 IIRC.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

I used to work with a guy who refused to buy a kitchen bin when the council provide one for free, so he kept is wheelie bin in the house.

Talking about kitchens and expense.. just bought a new house, amazing kitchen but seller is taking cooker with them (I knew that from the start, not a problem). So I measured the gap that is left between the granite worktops and it's 110cm....went looking for cookers 110cm wide... :| £1700 later...

Get a less crap Missus. Or tell her since she threw out a perfectly decent bin she can go and get a new one and here's a tenner to cover it. Won't be any trouble finding something plastic in B&Q for that.

And stop posting these awful threads - you are a shadow of your former self.

I'm sorry, I've been properly domesticated. My X-box has dust all over it. I have considered cancelling my Star Wars MMORPG subscription. I went to the park yesterday with Ms DDD and her yummy Mummy friends, we sat eating food I could not pronouce and talking bedtime routines. I've stopped watching porn.

What is most worrying, I am genuinely interested in what oven/hob/cooker Essex Commuter bought.

    Dual fuel.

Just thinking, have I made a fool of myself...is that a price most people pay for cookers? Maybe I'm just a tightwad!

Edit: - I cannot believe I was attempting to have a conversation about cookers.

Rick, there is nothing wrong with watching PORN! How do you expect to learn new stuff or find out if you are/she is doing it right can do it better.

It's sad isn't it. I'm an expert now in 'American' fridge freezers', oak doors and suites of furniture.

We (I) bought a Rangemaster cooker in the end. Ms EC doesn't particularly like cooking, I did suggest I take the double oven doors off and sitck a microwave in each hole, at least then she could defrost two dinners at once! :D

It has got a wok burner though, that sounds pretty cool.

Ms DDD loves to cook, but I've already told her that really good cooks don't need big fancy stoves/ovens to cook great meals. Hopefully this 'challenge' will sanction the purchase of a hotpoint or some similar £150 oven/hobb combination and avoid shelling out carbon framed bike money...

Why is it good that I've stopped watching porn, then? I mean sure, it is probably healthy that I watched less of it but that's not the issue.... lol.

Also, what bin do you have, where and how much did you buy it for?

Ah porn gives people weird ideas of what sex is about IMO.

Bin? I picked up a £7 one from the local kitchenware/everything you could ever want to buy cheaply shop.

Is good. Good size, semi-spherical lid with a sliding front flap/door thing. Lift to open it.

Good size flap/door too. Not so keen on spring loaded bins - end up with half your leftovers on the door.

Smaller bins are the way to go. It encourages you to empty it more often otherwise you have a very smelly kitchen.

and DDD, I wouldn't really want to go out with someone who'd "learnt" all their tricks off porn. That would make for a very unsatisfied woman, covered in sperm, frankly.

Come again? I think you misunderstand me. I am at a point in my life where I am starting a family and creating a home. Whereas when I was in my mid 20s many of these things didn't matter or were out of my reach financially, they have become more poignant/important too my life. So I come here and ask because I like the people here.

If you read that as an attempt from me to stress my class, family or financial status then I think that's more to do with you and less to do with me.

I genuinely wanted know what bins people have and the cooker thing is interesting. Honestly, when the time comes I'd like to have a 110cm bad boy, but ours would likely be half that size and less than half the price.

Not all porn films end with the lady being covered... Besides some women, I'm told, like it.

I fully accept that you can't learn everything from porn. There are however, techniques and positions you can learn from it. We are visual beings after all so it must help to benefit surely?

Probably, but then there are two brabantias in the house I live in. They match the Smeg american style freezer and cooking range in the kitchen. Its a nice ensemble that I can admire from the dining table on a lazy sunday morning as I read the financial times while the Archer's omnibus is on in the background. Annual skiing holiday. BUPA.
