Not very welcoming round here all of a sudden? Didn't he know the special handshake?
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

    Tedious:

    Post gets reported as spam.

Mod takes a view, in light of other mod views/info etc (like looking where the IP address, is, comparing it to known spam IPs).

Someone doesn't like mod action, posts thread about it.

    Boring argument about moderating.

I was going to vote for Katie Price and Peter Andre. When they win gold in the oylimpics they'll be everybody elses favourites too.

Blimey! You've run more than one out of town today?

If it is spam, then surely better to delete the thread, no? Otherwise it (that's to say "We lock Newbie threads around here") doesn't create the most welcoming shopfront for passing foot traffic, surely.

We've had a lot of complaints about mods deleting things rather than locking things.

So I've listened and started locking stuff instead.

I think this is a good thing but I reckon you still need to bung in a one line explanation. It's this whole thing where things are done without a justification that winds some folk up - an explanation works wonders.

I reported him as well - looked at the post history and it was just 'odd' so I fired off a RTM and I think the right decision was made.

I think renaming the thread to SPAM makes it fairly obvious.

    My 2p worth...

Its a tricky one this... I moderate another 'specialist' forum which is primarily UK focused but we get a lot of newbies from overseas. Some are obviously spam (they often copy bits from a post from elsewhere in the thread that sort of looks in context - to build post count) or their IP address doesnt match the location given (IP is usually somewhere in China, but increasingly is an anonymiser seemingly in Canada or Utah). Some, like the one this thread refers to, are not obvious at first. For many of these 'would be' members English isnt their first language, nor are they always clear on the etiquette and nuances of a UK-biassed forum, so I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt if the content is generally innocuous.

I'm ok on locking the thread, with a quick PM to the OP to explain why, but I wouldn't change the OP content unless it was problematic in some way (I don't recall this one being so)...
