I love Spoons and they fit well... .

However my 2nd one is now creaking after only 4-5 rides... the first lasted many many months before creaking.

So wouldn't mind trying something else..

I'm pretty sure the Gusset R-series and Madison Flux are based on the same shell (so could have the same problem too). I like Spoons, but also get on well with SDG Bel-Airs if that helps.

Had a spoon on my old carrera before it was nicked and never had a problem with it at all. Got a madison flux on my current HT and it creaks abit although i can stop it briefly by covering the seatpost top in grease when reassembing it then wiping off any excess but it doesnt seem to last very long.

Other than that both great seats imo, comfy and cheap.

Got a galaxy sdg and its very comfy and silent. Recommend it.

  • is the creaking definitely in the saddle? i've had noises in that area before and its turned out to be the seat clamp, usually adding a small amount of grease between the seat rails and clamp sorts it out. worth a try before you go out and buy something new.

if you still have a problem, i've been using a fizik gobi for a while now and don't have any complaints.

    I also like my Gobi.

But if you're happy with Spoons then I'd say stick with it.

  • If you want a spoon'ish look with colour options the SDG Bel Air is nice. However it is famed for creaking! I blamed Wiggle and they sent me a new one which, touch wood, is still silent 6 months on. Seems like the world and his wife all have Gobi's these days.

I was thinking the same thing. Creaking from the saddle can often be remedied by applying a little smear of grease on the saddle rails and/or the seat clamp.

Tried that.. no good.. This is a fairly new saddle. I got a couple of rides, but started to creak quickly. I'll have another clean tomorrow and a grease, but pretty sure it's at fault this time.

Well stupidly i bought a spoon again... the sodding thing creaks after about 6 rides... it's getting on my nerves..

So i'm back in the "what seat doesn't creak" mode.

I'd just like 6 months of silence. Cost is now irrelevent, as long as it resolves my issue.

I'm thinking it's not your saddle, my spoon has done 2,250miles on my commuter and I ride with a chap who does 1000 miles a MONTH and only uses spoons.....all creak free

That said I picked up a Bonty inform cheap and am liking that.......

I can make it creak with my bare hands. Hold onto the seatpost and waggle the front, it creaks... this is with seatpost NOT in the bike... it can be in the kitchen or the bedroom LOL. Trust me, it's the seat.. it's the 3rd Spoon and the 3rd time i've had it creaking.
  • I found the spoon very comfy. My ass also approves of the Ragley Cheeky though. May be worth a look
  • I am on my third Spoon, on my second bike. Not so much as a squeak from any combination. Plenty of chatter from my creaking old joints though.

Sounds like it's your seatpost rather than your saddle. Done 1,500+km on mine...silent as a mouse

Saddles do creak sometimes, personally I'd just ignore it.

I do like WTB range of saddles - the Silverado one does creak by the way (nice though).

So its the joint from top of seatpost to saddle that's probably creaking........and its the common denominator!

Try either a cheap different sadde or seatpost for a bit!

I use Charge Spoon saddles & they do always creek almost from new. I have found that a good smear of copper crease on the rail every couple weeks helps cure the problem. It's annoying but I find the Spoon very comfortable.
The creaking doesn't seem as bad since I changed to a Thomson Elite seatpost though it is still there.

    Or the seatpost did....

I have 2 and have used them in 3 seatposts - creak free.

Spoon on five different seat posts (three different bikes), creaked on all of them but slightly quieter on the Thomson seatpost.

I have a Charge Spoon on the hardtail and it is great, it doesn't creak at all. I thought it was the nuts until I sat on the stock Selle Italia X1 on my Canyon, which is even more comfortable (and also doesn't creak).
