How long is Skys deal with Mr Brailsford? Wondering how it will be impacted now they have achieved their main goal?

Its impressive how they've done what they set out to do so quickly, so where does that leave them in terms of goals.

Sky would be stupid to stop sponsoring what's prob the strongest squad in the peleton. Cycling in Britain is only going to get more popular.

Worse case scenario if they do bail I bet they could be replaced quite easily by someone like Vodafone, Barclays etc

Endura looking for new sponsor, and Branson looking to jump on the cycling bandwagon. Get on it, BrianS.

Plus in Froome's interview he commented how Sky were aiming to always be a GC team in future and he hoped that would mean he could take "the burden" of leadership should it suit his skills. I guess their goals change.

Sky have the goal of helping push cycling nationwide which of course all adds to putting the Sky brand front and centre.

From a marketing perspective, they've hit their peak now, so where to next? Just trying to look at it from a commercial angle.

In allla seriousness there aren't many big corps looking to get into cycling.

I bet there will be now.

    to pose a question:

Why sponsor Manchester United when they have already won so many trophies?

Answer: to be associated with their success.

I can see the same happening now with the British cycling team. We have both Wiggins and Froome that can win GC's not to mention Cav and his winning ability. There will be all sorts of people and business' s that will want to associate with the team

Talking of money... which other ProTour or WorldTour (whichever it is) team is now likely to 'up their game'?
    Saxo?

They had their "Team Sky 2010" season this year I think, especially this tour. The Aussies won't want to be outdone by the Poms either.

Saxobank seems to be upping the stakes as well for next year.

Anyone else think a big corporate might come in to set up a second British team? Brailsford has been talking about Sky's ongoing GC focus and how he'd understand if Cav wanted to move on - might be good to have a classics / sprint focused Brit based team with Cav, Eisel, Stannard, Thomas, Dowsett etc. Wiggo / Froome would then have 17 helpers at the Tour if necessary, and Cav would have a full lead out train...

If say, they wanted to get out of sponsorship, and as a result the team folded, wouldn't now be the worst time with regards to negative publicity.

OTOH, it would also be the best time to find a new sponsor.

I think Sky have plenty left to gain from continued sponsorship, potentially, in the UK we might see a gradual change in the level of coverage of the sport. With two quality GC riders, we could see a serious challenge for the pink jersey in the Giro too, which is beneficial for their Italian market.

Plus, Sky have Sky rides etc, they really seem to have settled on cycling as something to be associated with.

Sky pro-cycling budget is a mere crumb in Sky's advertising budget.

Wouldn't imagine they'd be desperate to lose some costs. For the amount they pay they get a lot of exposure.

Front page of every broadsheet, the guardian of all people dedicating half the paper to it? And that's just the UK.

I'm assuming that you can be the main sponsor of a cycling team for about the same as a 3cm Sq patch costs on Lewis Hamilton's right calf.

And considering the press received for the Murdoch empire over the last year, this must be a very welcome change. I really hope Branson never gets his hands on it. James Murdoch is genuinely interested in the sport at least, but Branson is just looking for a cheap vehicle for his crap brand.

Sadly I can think of several reasons why companies don't want to get too closely tied into professional cycling.

Road cycling isn't 'core enough duuuuude!

The redbull team wouldn't win anything anyway, their baggy shorts would slow them down in the TTs

The Red Bull mention raised another thought in my mind in the mold of Toro Rosso -
    - the depth of the Sky squad makes it close to being able to muster a B team - maybe 'Cielo' for the italian market.
