I took a quick look in Halfords today at the Boardman road bikes.

Does anyone know how they have changed over the last 4 years?

I noticed there was a 'Race' model which I hadn't noticed before (bottom of the line up). Does this mean the comp is now better or has the race gone in below the race?

Also I know they tend to discount them - do you what time of year they are likely to be discounted?

No idea how they have changed.

Race is bottom of the line, and the model I bought. The comp has better specced equipment (groupset). I've been more than happy with mine, but have upgraded a few items already. Upgrades are part of the hobby.

I got mine in Sept 11, as it was heavily discounted at the time. Just keep an eye on their website and might be worth asking in store when next discounts are due to be run. They may know and be prepared to tell you.

Been through the archive.org site to look at the boardman site from 2010.

Looks like comp was the base model but was quite well spec'd with 105/tiagra back in 2010 and the weight figures were less than the new comp model - and the price was cheaper than the current comp model.

Looks like the Race has been introduced below the comp if that makes sense.

Looking at the current bikes the comp also has an improved frame over the race (the race looks like the old comp frame - or similar atleast!) The new comp has a tapered headset - the race doesn't.

The more I look at them the more I want one!

didn't they change the wheels to Mavic Aksium in 2010 or 2011 when they put the price up? thats on the team carbon which is the model I'm considering anyway.
