It serves him right for repeatedly saying "it's not over until the fat lady sings in Paris" for the last 2 weeks instead of giving proper interviews like he used to. Prudhomme has a sense of humour it seems.

What the hell was whoever 'responsible for it' thinking putting Leslie Garrett up for screeching out the national anthem with her over-expressive daft face?? I mean, if it was Katherine Jenkins it would have been looooooads better, BUT would be stacks better again if the national anthem was played as just a recording of the orchestral music with no vocals.

Its a shame, cos we could have had a clip to look back on of Brad on the podium and his face when the the National Anthem is played, instead the best we have forever is video of him on a podium while the anthem is murdered. Wasted moment.

    Such a shame.

    Couldn't agree more. Dreadful woman.

Wiggo was/is class, start to finish. Shame he has no time to enjoy it, but hope he takes some time out with the family after he tops our lifetime medal table at the Olympics.

    Good on Ya, Brad.

He's made a fan out of me in the last 3 weeks, obviously I didn't not like him but I didn't find him particularly likeable either. After that speach I would call myself a fan. Hero.

    Not seen his Romandie interview?

No I heard about it, but I don't normally bother watching them.

Might check some of the older ones out now.

Err, there's a link to it?

Yes the anthem was appalling, she didnt have much to work with though, our anthem is terrible

You are obviously entitled to your opinion but there's no need to make it sound ridiculous in front of the world by getting it warbled by an opera singer - no doubt she earned a mint for that too! Playing it in the background on speakers would have been fine

Yes you are right, i should have changed the emphasis of my post. Musically speaking i would have preferred the whole of Sky and Liquigas to do a rousing pub rendition of the Italian anthem.

It was a passing quip ... He's hardly Noel Coward ...

You lot are all just wanting reasons to like him ... Kind of like he's the only skinny blonde at a party ...

Who's the curvaceous and slightly slutty looking brunette at the party?

    +1
Whoever started this 'trend' needs shooting! Why have a opera singer who sings it at a different speed to what the anthem should be and warbles and ruins it!!!

Didn't they mess up the anthem when Contador won a few years ago?

I can't remember Contadork winning in the last couple of years, but I presume you mean the tour where they accidentally played the Spanish national anthem instead of the Luxembourg one?

Was in the Jardin des Tuileries and couldn't make out any of Brad's speech but unfortunately Lesley Garrett's singing came through loud and clear. Only low point of the day!
