Thinking for going to Betchworth instead of Boxhill Station. Anyone know what the walk from Betchworth station to the junction of Boxhill Rd and Headley Common Rd is like?

It's about 1.5 or 2 miles walk from the station along the B road, not sure if there is a pavement but I'm pretty sure there is a wide grass area.

Pebble Hill ... the Betchworth end of it is fairly flat, the Headley end is a steep uphill. A fast road, narrow in places, and mostly without pavement. You can walk it if your eyes are well peeled.

Betchworth station doesn't get many trains. Another option is Reigate station - about 4 miles from Headley, but with more trains and a choice of walking routes, including the scenic option along the top of the Downs.

    Hope this helps.

BLOODY STEEP. Uphill  (My old training rides many moons ago)

The Road Race should have gone up there a couple of times. (but you want a sprint finish)

    Looks good to cycle.

Thank you for contacting London 2012 about cycling to Box Hill.

Free, secure cycle parking will be provided for ticket holders near the Old London Road and Donkey Green entrances. Plan your journey by bike using the spectator journey planner

There will be a free cycle maintenance service at both cycle parks for spectators at Box Hill. Just turn up with your bike and the experienced bike mechanics will carry out minor repairs to help get you back on the road. You’ll need to pay for any parts needed but labour is free. The service will be available on both competition days from 8am – 3pm.

Please note that bike locks will not be provided at the venue so remember to bring one with you.

Because cycle parking is limited, you may also want to check http://www.gosurrey.info or http://www.molevalley.gov.uk for additional facilities in the area.

    Enjoy London 2012.

there are trains listed from Victoria to Boxhill & Westhumble station which looks on the map v close... i asusme the station is open - anyone going to there?

spoke to National Trust at Box hIll and there are bike parks - but they said they would be limited. Post above implies that if you have a ticket - you'll get a place for your bike however...

thinking about parking at epsom downs, and cycling from there, Epsom easy to get to off M25 via Reigate, and only about 5 miles from back of the route at headley.

Or if you want to park south of the loop and ride in, there's a small car parking spot at 51.203693, -0.309140
    – takes about 10 mins or so to ride over to Dorking, along Blackbrook Road and Punchbowl Lane.

The A24 in Dorking will be available for cyclists and other spectators along its southbound lanes.

The whole "limited" facilities for people with tickets to leave their bicycles is ridiculous. They should be up front about what exactly "limited" means. That could be 100 or 5,000. Given that there were something like 15,000 tickets sold I wouldn't want to cycle if there were actually only 100 spaces, for example.

At the moment I'm still trying to work out the best way of getting there. I'm considering calling in a favour for a lift most of the way there, but have no idea how bad the traffic is likely to be. Cycling would definitely be the best option, but only if there are sufficient spaces. I can imagine dozens of people with bikes and tickets offering them to people without tickets because they are stuck with their bike and nowhere to park it.

Thanks for the heads up on Betchworth. Reigate is not really an option as I'll have my kids with me. Managed to get tickets for the Zico bike festival just off the A24, so currently debating going to Boxhill and walking up to Mickleham or going to Betchworth and taking a walk up the hill there which I expect will be less crowded.
