Chain rubbing on leg

Bit of a strange question, but each time I go out on my bike I end up with black grease/oil from the chain on the inside of my right calf. I use SPD pedals (the mountain bike variant) and considered that it could be that they could be angled and causing my leg to touch the chain. However I don't experience any discomfort, even after putting in a few miles.

Never hand the problem on my MTB as it had a bashguard, any ideas?

It can happen when getting on or off the bike... stopping at junctions and leaning the bike etc. if the chain is rubbing on your leg whilst you're pedalling then you'd notice!

Yep I nearly always get the black imprint on my leg. Normally quite a nice chain pattern to it so you can tell its not when you are moving!

I occasionally feel it and it is always at the beginning or end of the journey
