Nope, I build wheels as a hobby, I also cook as a hobby and I think my pizza is better then my wheels...
Very few brands actually make their own hubs... I've just got a set of Edge SL hubs with ceramic bearings, they make big claims about their hubs, but they are only Bitex hubs in disguise... fortunately, as Bitex hubs are actually quite good for the money. I contacted Bitex... I can buy their hubs for $ 48 a pair if I buy in decent volumes (50 sets or so) I can put any name I like on them... 1 extra dollar for laser etching.
Most rims are made in the far east and branded with different names... also that is irrelevant, as they are often good. The quality of the build for J spoked light wheels is patchy... there is little attention to the time consuming details... tensions are checked here and there, rather than everywhere (it takes time to check 50+ spokes a few times during a build... much less if you only check randomly ten of them once) it takes time to punch in place 50+ spokes, so not many bother, you can tell just by looking at the spoke head in the flange. If it is pristine, it's not been punched. It takes time to destress the wheel after every single step of the build.
If you want to sell cheap and make good profit, you don't have that time
What am I try to say? That there are so many wheels on the market, disguising a mediocre product behind a big logo, which for some means guarantee of quality, for others means absolutely nothingleft the forum March 20230
