hey there.
ive been cycling for pleasure and commuting for a couple of years now but i have questions, just hoping this forum could help answer them.
when ive looked at new bikes, with better spec components the price obviously goes up. the question is that i dont understand what makes these components better?
so for example what makes a sram x9 better than a sram x7 rear mech?
thanks for any input

    Basically it is lighter.

  • really? and thats all lol so it takes a real enthusiast to spend the extra money? does the same go for front mech? and what about brakes? you have elixers and the likes, is that just weight and street cred too?
  • im also looking and thinking that an x4 will only work with a 7-8 speed cassette so for a 10 speed you'd need an x9?

I have to think, what else did you expect? A rear mech (for example), is a rear mech, is a rear mech, is a rear mech.

Really? IMHO the lower one appears to be a slightly more sophisticated design, made better (cast instead of bent tin) and probably has finer tolerances and work better.

    Lighter and maybe stronger then.
And that's only a maybe, I've seen some super cheapo mechs go on for seemingly ever.
Still does the same job though.

In which case your random posts about XT brakes being the second coming must have just been me hallucinating.
    Cantis do the job.
