Shimano FH-M765 Hub axle assembly help

I have recently acquired a rear wheel (mavic 717 laced to shimano xt FH-M765 rear hub) only snag is the hub comes without an axle and cones etc. I (naively) assumed that I could simply buy a new hub of the exact same type and take the axle assembly and get a new freehwheel and QR to boot. Turns out its not so easy. Tried my LBS and they have none in stock (both axle or complete hub) and a search of online retailers is no better. Cant seem to find anywhere that stocks either a full hub or axle assembly. I've checked up on Shimano Tech-docs and it appears that other XT hubs have slightly different internals, does this matter can I buy a slightly different hub and just whack the axle in or is it not that simple?

there is, I have found this and identified the parts and part numbers I need, problem is cant find the buggers anywhere in stock, found one retailer offering what i needed, clicked the link and its out of stock - when I gave them a bell they told me there have not had parts for a long time.
I have been looking into the preceding and following hubs in the range and have noticed that the FH-M760 is the only hub that uses the same combinations of cones, seals etc. However cant seem to get hold of those spares (or complete hub either) :oops:

Try contacting Petra cycles, or madison direct - usually can order them in.0

You can get some of the bits to build up your hub. These are the Madison codes you need , any decent bike shop can order them in for you.
Axle - 360 1920-9
Left hand cone - 4BB 9805
Right hand cone - 3AE 0310
Right hand axle spacer and seal - 32X 9802
Right hand dust cap - 3A0 0510
You should be able to use the serated lock nut, spacer and washer from the left hand cone kit from FH-M665, part number 3D3 9805.0 -
