Every pub and cafe with a tv should have the tour on on Sunday the occassion is totally unique in British sport.

You can't ram it down everyones throat.

Fair point, but god blow me when I think of some of the non-events I see televised in my local (and it's not unique) I think good god this is a genuine FIRST FOR BRITISH SPORT AND THE NATION.

Chris Hoy said it's one of, if not THE, greatest British sporting achievements ever. I couldn't agree more :)

Me too. Just back from me local (so 'scuse spelling). Everyone firmly glued to the golf. Had a chat about the TdF, and once I'd explained that it wasn't a race between first and second in GC as such, they were even more baffled.
So I resorted to the F1 analogy, and it seemed to work well. I think they got that. Team outcome over the individual etc. Stick to the basics, eh.
By now Mrs BBGeek is a proper fan (and disappointed no Geraint this tour), so she can put up with my incessant ramblings on the subject.
We're a long way off crowding in the pub and watching it in all it's glory yet...

Still bet you the golf will be on your local on Sunday.

Surely Hucknall Town's playing Newstead Brownies in a local derby, that's far more interesting!
Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.

I wouldn't know about that, pre-season friendlies are not my thing.

Have you not had an invite to Kate Cutts' tory party fund raising do today?

I'm watching the cricket this afternoon but it's becoming increasingly painful. The cycling will provide some relief!

The cricket was on in my local, I only stopped for one got a carry out from "booze buster" and I'm going to sit and watch "the parade".

Went on holiday last year to Argeles-sur-Mer just south of Perpignan, and it was noticable that at around 2.30-3.00pm-ish the poolside would empty of all the dads and sons (and some mums and daughters too!) and adjourn to the bar to watch 'Le Tour'. It was also noticable that the only British people were my son and me, that may have changed this year.

My local you can guarantee was showing the Golf - not even worth the bother.
it's odd this though isn't it - speedybird, who learns quickly it must be said, really only got into Le Tour in the last couple of years so I have had to curtail my excitement (lest she think I am a total nutter) at seeing a British Yellow Jersey leading out a British World Champion for a sprint finish on the Champs Elysee - I only jumped out of my seat 3 times! Given that this will raise the profile of cycling to another level, as one who has yearned for a proper British contender and just been given what we have, I have to stop myself from getting a little Evangelical about it all.

Indeed - the visitors at The Oval declared on 637-2  which left me somewhat gobsmacked. Although to be fair, the hosts were always going to come off second best; the SA line-up includes a player called Philander, so with a name like that the side was bound to fare better when "playing away"....
