Just watched the BBC News and the sports headline was cycling. Wiggins retains the Yellow Jersey and Cavendish wins stage (in a fantastic sprint). Those headlines would be cuckoo land 5 years ago.

    You have to pinch yourself.

Why don't we get Dave Brailsford to take over the England Football Team? You never know, we may win the World Cup too!!!
He'd put Wayne Rooney in defence though. Still, it's better than Glen Johnson.

    :D

Reminds me of Sir Clive Woodward's stint at Southampton. If Brailsford takes over a football team, how about 'arry Redknapp to take his place at BC?

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

I figured it would happen within 20 years easily but I did think Brailsford was being a bit overly optimistic (he's admitted that btw) when he started.

At the 2009 GB Nation Championships in Abergavenny, this was the breakaway.
I didn't expect them to be quite where they are three years later.

Froome looks a bit chunkier there!

When Brad got 4th in 2009 I thought a podium was maybe possible. But after his performance in 2010 and seeing the calibre of riders Sky had signed at that point I just couldn't imagine it happening within five years. It truly is amazing that we now find ourselves with 1st and 2nd. And in Froome we have a British rider who looks a credible GT contender for the next five years.

What's special for me is that somewhere there'll be a young lad who, instead of going for a kick-about and pretending he's Van Persie or Messi, will get on a bike and go riding through the hills pretending he's Bradley Wiggins.

Good link, thanks. I forgot that he'd worn the Maglia Rosa. Nothing but yellow this year :)

I reckon, from what we have seen this year, he would have at least made it on to the podium last year.
