Could anyone recommend a good campsite for a family (3 kids under 7) that is reasonably priced in the West Country area?

Devon area. North or South.Fat lads take longer to stop.0 -
I may not have been for 30 years or so, but I would recommend "Little Meadow" near Combe Martin.

Had some great holidays there as a nipper. Sounds like it's still as good. There's a load of steps down to a great, sheltered beach. Really nice place.0 -

Blackpool Sands, near Dartmouth. Right on the beach in a little cove. Lovely.Scott Sportster P45 2008 | Cannondale CAAD8 Tiagra 20120

The rather strangely named 'Damage Barton' is a big fave of mine. It's just outside Ilfracombe and overlooks the Bristol Channel and Lundy Island. Good facilities, and right next to Woolacoombe Sands (one of the best beaches in Britiain IMHO) a beautifil little beach cove called 'Lee' - and a superb Cliff Top walk to Ilfracombe itself. When I stayed there it was an official 'Camping and Caravanning Club' site but open to the public too.
Oh I wish I was there now!!
Good luck.Raymondo

I do fondly remember the days of wooden frames and tarpaulin style tents that took an age and a rugby team to assemble.
Not like these fancy schmancy modern tents that either pop up or take ooooo 5 mins in the case of the huge 8 man jobbies. Like a city of hi-tech canvas
Where's the fun I ask you?
(still can't believe I got a walk in 4 berth for £75... bloody great tent)Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Yeah, going to make sure mine is all OK this weekend on the rugby field over the road (too big for the garden!) We're going to the Dorset Steam Fair at the end of August - can't wait!
Wow...that sounds really nerdy, awsome fair though.FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits

Ahh the Dorset Steam fair, what a great day out. Dorest is our usual destination, the Isle of Purbeck is great.
Jeez only a few years ago it was Ibiza and Ayia Nappa. Now camping in the West Country, steam fairs and a pint of Doom Bar, whats happened.Fat lads take longer to stop.0 -
given the expense of pitching a large family tent I find it actually works out about the same price to find a small cheap kid-friendly festival and get tickets for that instead. all your entertainment is then laid on and the kids just run riot.
we're going to this http://www.farmfestival.co.uk/
and can highly recommend this http://blissfields.co.uk/ which we went to recently.
The real benefit of these though is that once wifey is tired and the kids are tucked up, the guys can head out in search of nefarious chemicals, dance music and even more ale.0 -
Good site for keeping kids occupied (South Devon):

Good site in North Devon (Croyde), again, nice indoor swimming area to keep the kids happy (and the men as it has a slide which measures your max speed, always a challenge amongst the Dads) and very close to the beach, and does cheesey evening entertainment.

I think Camping is OK, at least people tend to go there in normal cars, although some insist on towing a silly little trailer.
Caravans however, I'm with the Top Gear team. Get the damn things off the roads, explode them, crash them, drop them off cliffs. I don't understand the need to take your own washing up brush on holiday with you.Bianchi Infinito CV

However - and it's clearly due to my blossoming middle age - I totally understand motorcaravanning. It's a van. With a house in it. 'Mazin.Scott Sportster P45 2008 | Cannondale CAAD8 Tiagra 20120
