The Organisers of the Ryedale Rumble Sportive scheduled to be held on the 2nd September regret to announce its cancellation. Spokesperson Bob Howden of British Cycling’s Yorkshire Region has indicated that insurmountable issues have arisen in respect of the host venue Ampleforth College.
The severe levels of summer rainfall have finally caught up with event after years of trouble free Sportive promotion.
Difficulties were experienced at the National Championships held there in June when the usual grassed exhibition car park couldn’t be used due to its saturated condition. A contingency Plan B was introduced that switched to an adjacent meadow, which by the end of that weekend had itself turned into a quagmire. The latest twist sees the Event HQ at the St Alban Sports Centre undergoing a refurbishment over the next two months with the car parks there being substantially taken over by the Contractors. So Plan’s A, B and C have now been lost.
Although there is a slim chance that the car parks could improve with better weather the hosts can’t guarantee this and at the moment there is a ban in place on using grassed areas for parking. The Rumble’s organising team therefore felt it best to call a halt at this stage before extensive travel plans had been made by riders.
Riders will receive a refund for their entries as soon as this can be arranged.

Its a pity that it was cancelled as its a great day out and one of the the better sportives on the calendar. Was going to do this event this year as I have not done it since 2010 and fancied staying over a making it a two day event for me riding in that area.Brian B.0
