Raceface Crank Play

Just replaced my bottom bracket in my giant trance. The crank is a Raceface Ride Xc. The crank came off fine everything was going good until I tightened it up and still had play.

I believe that it is a 2 piece crank. The play is with the splined NDS crank bit sliding inside the bottom bracket to the DS.

I'm not too sure how to explain it but hopefully somebody on here will be able to help me.

Cheers

what make of BB did you fit?

  • Yep, fully tightened.

No spacers came off the cranks. Originally I put in a Shimano BB but had the same thing so I cleaned up the raceface one and stuck that one back in and it still hasnt gone away.

well it HAS to have spacers.

    what is the BB width?
is there any device mounted between the BB and the frame.

Have you looked at a manual or Parktools?

  • I see. Well, I've obviously missed something.

68mm shell. 2 DS 1 NDS set up as a triple.

Ok you have the correct spacers. but you now still have play?
are you tightening the bolt up fully?

  • yep, when everything is tight, the cranks slide from left to right then right to left etc through the BB.

Seems odd if it is fully tensioned up. Try 2 nds spacers to see if that solves it

Just measured a few old shimano bb cups ones and they are very slightly different.

And this is with both the RF and the shimano BBs.

And the spacers are all 2.5mm?

  • All sorted now thanks guys. I just wasnt tightening it tight enough. i could do with getting a torque wrench really. Then there will be no problem.

Thanks very much for all your help guys :D
