Wheel rebuild - reusing hubs

A question about rebuilding wheels.

I have a set of Mavic Speedcity 700cm disc wheels that have taken a whack when I got hit by a car in March. Both front and rear rims are bent beyond repair. I'm wondering if I could re-use the speedcity hubs and build them into a new set of wheels. Besides learning that the hubs are ruined due to the accident, any reason why this can't be done as well?

Finally I'm in SE London - where is my best bet to take everything and have 4 wheels built based on my new config - I'd be ok to source the new parts myself or have the builder source them on my behalf.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Matt

    Nope, no reason not to.

1 the rear hub is likely too wide.
2 sbject to damage they should be fine for their original use.

Not if we're talking disc hubs/frames - most 'cross frames have settled on 135mm (luckily).

No other reason not to no. Can't specifically help on a wheel builder.

Cyclocross disc wheels and frames are usually 135mm wide so it should be fine.

Put them in a box and send them to your favourite wheel builder anywhere in the country.

agreed but as there is no mention of what the CX frame is......

it is the only issue. Other than the frame not having disc mounts.

yes some people over look that.

Dirty Disco as replacement and it will accept the 135mm hubs.

Looks like I'll remove the rims from all the hubs and find a builder that will work with me.

    thx for the advice

The fact hes getting disc wheels gives it away...

Whilst I agree Nick has a penchant for jumping on people for not spelling everything out I think there was some ambiguity here.

King hubs can be either, Alpha rims have a braking surface and Speed City wheels were designed so you could run 700c slicks in your 26" framed MTB. He mentions he's written off the rims in a crash, but not what bike he was riding at the time.

So, it was a very valid point IMO.
