So I been testing some bikes and still have the focus izalco 3 to test today but so far been unimpressed by the gear you getting for your money and no frame had stuck out enough by itself to get me interested.
I'm now thinking about getting the canyon slx 8, but haven't seen many people reviewing it so unsure how it compares to the rest of the canyon range Ie, ultimate ect, anyone got one? Also size wise I'm 6 ft with leg of around 32, so any ideas? Or is their online tool good enough?
Thanks for help

Which bikes have you tested so far? How come you didnt like the frames? Have you liked any aspect of the bikes you've so far tested?

I'd probably get the bog standard CF over the SLX cos you'll get a better spec for the money.

Canyon are releasing their new carbon frame soon though.

On the new model point has anyone any insight into the best time to snap up a Canyon bike? As well as seemingly being a bargain generally they’re also offering discounts on some models while the TdF is on.

Do Canyon mark down earlier year models when new ones come out or do they just sell them off at the same price? If there are discounts are they any better than the current TdF offer?

There is a new CF SLX frame coming out in 2013 but it probably wont be cheap. The current CF SLX frame is excellent.

For the OP, I would imagine a 56cm from would be ideal based on what you have provided. You also have the 30 day free stem exchange to tweak your position on the bike.
  • like you have said the new model isnt coming till 2013 and it going to be quite exspencive way over my intended price.

Im looking at the SLX compared to ultimate as the spec is very good and the frame from what i read is top notch, though maybe dated?

Also they have a TDF offer on atm so if i was going to buy now would be the time, but sinse i havnt heard much about the bike around here i wanted to see who has it if anyone does, and how it would compare in ride style to other bikes ie focus ect.

is it very racy? ie not comptable to ride?
p.s what cassette choice would suit UK riding most? atm going towards the stadard set-up as i dont see myself doing any mountain stages just yet..

Doesn't the base SLX model come with dura ace 7900 & mavic kysrium elites :?:
  • thats correct,it has Dura Ace 7900 with kysrium elite wheels, with a Fulcrum Racing Torq RS crankset.

I was looking through cassette options and if you change from a 11-28 to 11-23/12-25 you accur a supercharge of £15.72,so is 11-28 too mountain like or perfectly suitable?(not planning to do any mega flats so worried if i changed id be limiting myself with such a gear racio of 12-25 .)

It depends which forum you read. I would use the Canyon online tool to see what size you need but like I said earlier, I would say a 56cm would be about right and given the play on the seatpost / free stem swapout you will find a comfortable position on the bike.

Note, I've got a Canyon Aeroad and it really is a lovely bike. It's taken me a couple of weeks to sort my optimal position on the bike. I went for a large but I could easily have been a medium as I fell right in between those sizes. I'm the same height as you but my legs are a little longer.
  • I have just ordered the slx 8.0 in a 56.

Should be arriving in a week or so. I am also 6 ft with a similar inside leg measurement so I can let you know how I get on.

I went to a pro fitter yesterday with the canyon geo and we tried a combination of bikes which were all close to work out my size. We started off on a 58 and ended up working out I needed a 60, which is what the canyon pps tool also reckons. I'm 185cm with 91 inseam, currently riding a spesh 58 which fits well. He said it was close between the two and I'd probably want a 100 stem as opposed to standard 110.

    I honestly dont know why you'd want a 60cm with a 100mm stem?

Why not go for a 58cm and fit a 110/120mm stem for better handling?

Stem I'm with you, I'm going to in with the 110. Though I wouldnt necessarily equate longer stem with better handling.

60 I can see, the top tube on the canyon 58 is 56.5, my current bike is 58.2 on a 58 frame. Guess the point is that not all manufacturers 58 will be the same size

What are the seat tube angles though?
  • I used the tool and it suggested a58, even tried lower measurements e and still has 58 so going with that I'll let you know how it goes..omg I can't wait lol,

  • I got my new slx 8.0 yesterday. Here is a picture.

It is a size 56 frame.

Feels very light. But that might be because my last bike was so heavy.

Raistyraist - very nice, just what I'm about to order I reckon! I'm 6'2 and currently ride a 61 Secteur sport and the pps site reckon a 56 is correct for me, but I think a 58 or 60 would be better.

Whereabouts roughly do you live (could I come and have a look, if you're near and don't mind!)
