I thought at 5'10.5" I would be L size in giant defy range. I have found a used bike which I plan to see tomorrow. Problem is it will be my first road bike and I don't think I will be able to tell if it is a good fit or not. I was surprised to see that according to the giant size chart I should have an m/l frame. Shame - this looked like a good buy :(

Keen to hear from other L size defy owners or defy owners about my height regarding their experience.

Hi - I ride the Giant SCR (defy's predecessor with same geometry) and am 6'1" - it's fine for me but frame sticker does say 5'11" to 6' 2".

Giant introduced the M/L frame (I think with the Defy range) to cater for the jump from Medium to Large. I really think you might find this would be a better fit. The best suggestion I can make is to get down to your local Giant dealer and try out (ie sit on) the alternative sizes.

    I'm 6ft and ride a M/L

L should be more for those 6ft+

You'll need an M or M/L as Giant uses compact geometry. I made the mistake of buying a Giant frame in L without doing any research an it aw way to big (I'm just shy of 6').

Hi I ride a Defy 2 (not sure if geometry is the same as 1) I am 5' 10'' and find a Medium is a good fit.

    I also ride a Defy 2 and I am 5' 10" and the M fits like a glove.

6'2 here and have a defy3 in large. Don't touch it. It'll be too big my bro in law had a go on mine who is 5'9 and nearly came off it

I am 6ft 2 as well and ride an xl, perfect fit for me.
I think a large will fit and you might need a stem change or a few tweeks.
It all depends on your body in relation to leg and body length.
Best bet is to go see it and give it a try.

Go on the Giant website, look at the geometry and check the virtual top tube length because Giant TT are long. You'll be a M or M/L, you'll need to catch a bus to get to your bars if you get a large.

Thanks all - i passed on the bike. I am going to go to a shop and try out the bikes for size. I think I will just end up lobbying the wife a bit harder and getting a new bike. Thanks very much for all the great replies.
