Insurance.

After the debacle I had a couple of years ago with Cycleguard - I put my bike on our home contents insurance. However, what concerns me is that I do not have any receipts for my bike. It is a totally custom build.

Any advice on how to insure it? I guess I need to get it valued by a professional?

Thoughts?

Take it to the LBs, get them to write the spec out and value it. Take photos.

I put details, spec, pictures and serial numbers on http://www.immobilise.com (its free). You are able to print "keepership certificates" for insurance purposes, and the police can check the database for retrieved stolen bikes. It isn't a valuation (and in any case an LBS valuation would only be accurate for the day it is conducted, you may well require a further estimate when you claim), but it does demonstrate ownership, and would form the basis of a satisfactory claim settlement.
