Front mech problem...

Hi guys, The screw that holds my gear cable on my front mech isn't screwing in.
There doesn't seem to be any thread at all inside for the screw to grip but the screw itself is fine.
Would it be ok to use a slightly bigger screw or do I need a new mech?

No. My XT did the same. It has a removable insert thread, all I needed to do was hack off the metal lug holding it in and replace. But my Deore doesn't have the same, so probably would be new mech time.0

Tut, The bike is only a few month old and kept in good condition. Will any 9 speed mech do?0

Normally there is a nut sitting in the back of the part the bolt enters.
Is there a big empty hex shaped hole?
Look on the floor."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
