Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum & to road cycling.

I currently have an 80s Raleigh Flyer converted to Single Speed and looking to buy my first 'proper' road bike.

I went to an LBS today (not my regular) and they have a Trek Alpha 1.1 in (new) reduced to £500.

I didn't really want to spend over £300 but I'm coming to terms with the fact that £300 doesn't get you a lot. So the question is - is £500 for Trek Alpha 1.1 an unmissable deal or will something different/better come along?

Thanks everyone :D

You don't get that much new for £500 either sadly but the Trek Alpha 1.1 would not represent the best value for money out there IMO.

I'd be looking secondhand myself - £500 would put you in with a chance of bagging a carbon bike with 105/Rival/Veloce spec & Aksium/Racing 7 wheels, which would be in a different league from the Alpha 1.1

I had a 2010 Trek 1.1 as my first road bike and it was a good solid bike to start on, but you'll soon be wanting something better so I would also look at second hand as there are some real gems to be had.

If you are set on brand new shop around for end of season sales. I got my old Trek brand new for £420 however I did sell it one year later for £200.

I've just bought a 2012 Trek 1.1 for the same price. I've also upgraded from an old Raleigh road bike. I like the Trek, but another £100 gets you a lot more bike, such as caron forks and better Shimano gears. I'll probably be upgrading again in a couple of years.
