I am in the process of rebuilding my '94 Kona Kula, first priority is to replace the worn outer chainring. It is a shimano 44t 5 arm off an XT crankset from earlier in this millennium (m9?). Been searching high and low and cannot for the life of me find one. Any suggestions?

All help appreciated, the concequence of not finding a replacement is a bit daunting....

5-arm 44t? That's going back a bit, not this millennium.

Look on the back of the crank, near the pedal thread, will have a part number, FC-M7xx, if it starts M9 it's XTR, but they've never done a 5-arm 44t, the 5 arm ones were always 48t.

That'll tell you what you have, you can then get the right BCD. I'd guess at something of this ilk.

Thanks, it is particularly ancient and decidedly odd, I remember at the time the 4 bolt was about to be released and got a deal on the 5 bolt, definitely XT, logo not quite worn away, will double check.

Link certainly looks like the one, will check the BCD and part number. Fingers crossed...
