What helmet ... ?

Hello,

I'm currently wearing a cheap Giro helmet, and though it has been good for mountain biking, i'm now looking for something a little lighter and with more ventilation for road biking.

I have a Specialized Secteur Tripple 2012 (red and white) and being a fashion victim, i'm looking for a new helmet which goes with the bike :)

I'm looking to spend ~£70, and I saw http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/propero-ii-2012-cycle-helmet-ec032087#reviews - any thoughts? Is it a good helmet, is there anything better for a similar price?

I have a Specialized Prevail - its more expensive but has the horizontal front slot like the one you are looking at - it vents really well..

    Whatever fits you best.....

Anyhooo - all the roadies are wearing lids with little or no ventilation these days. See the new Giro Air Attack or the covered in Kasks of Sky....

Is it worth taking the gamble of ordering off of the internet, or is it always best to go to a shop?

Internet ordering - I would only suggest you do this when replacing a helmet which you know fits. Otherwise it is worth going to a decent bike shop and paying slightly more to ensure you have the right helmet to suit the shape of your head. A very slightly poor fitting helmet can drive you mad on a long-ish ride.

Just had a wee drive and tried a few on ... glad I did, as the Specialized Propero II made my head look like a mushroom. I ended up getting the Specialized Echelon which was £20 cheaper to boot - result :)

    Cheers all

I can understand why you would be drawn to a Spesh helmet and their new Kevlar ones are good. Two friends have recently bought them and they tick all of your boxes.

I love my Giro Ionos. It lets so much air through that they give you a liner so you can still wear it in the winter.
