Just how important is it or is it actually necessary to replace the powerlink for a new one if its removed ?
Ive read that as its thinner than the 8 or 9 spd ones they ( sram) recomend you replace it. I know they dont cost much but basically if i remove it and dont replace it is going to break into a million pieces and ruin my day ?

I have used the 10 spd Powerlink and noticed that small shards broke off when I took it off to clean the chain. Those small bits were there to keep the link in place so I replaced it with the KMC version (which is reusable). They cost about £2 and for that you get 2, why on earth would you want to save money on that? If you lose a chain at the wrong time you could hit the deck, or be sorting the chain out at the side of the road in miserable weather with filthy hands...

Thanks for the reply, I'm quite happy to buy another link i was just wondering if it was absolutely necessary and not just a money making scheme by SRAM.

SRAM 10 speed links aren't designed to be undone, unlike the 8 and 9 speed ones. KMC 10 speed missing links can be repeatedly undone and reused though.
    More problems but still living....
