Never done this before but I intend to replace a dinged rim myself.
Question is if I replace like for like rims, do I need to replace the spokes and nipples or can I use existing ones?

If the rim is exactly the same you can reuse. Here's how to do it:

Loosen all the spokes off incrementally until they are almost flopping about. You might have to go around the wheel a couple of times.

Tape the new rim to the old one, and line up the spoke holes!

One by one, take a spoke and nipple and place in the new rim. Only tighten very slightly.

    Untape your new wheel.

Start to tension it, going round the wheel slowly. Using a guide like Sheldon is a good tip here on what to do.

if the rim is the same yes your spokes and nipples are fine to reuse if not damaged.
