Hi there. After quite a long break(12 months) I am now clear to start riding again. Got myself upto 100km rides and a few tt but then the knee issues I had reappeared.
Anyhow I have been commuting to and from work for the last fortnight and feel ready to start jacking things up again. I used to log my rides on endomondo but Other than distance it didn't seem to offer much competitiveness . Strava does seem to though.
Anyhow I am getting a garmin 200 in the next few weeks and hoped you could help me fathom things out quickly.
Thanks for any help

Not much to figure out really. Just upload your route and Strava will do everything for you. The segments are fun. Best not to take them too seriously, but they do egg you on a bit, definitely. Can't be a bad thing if it makes you work that bit harder.0
-
Is it that straightforward? I use an iPad so haven't worked out how I am going to upload from the garmin yet0
-
Pretty much. Strava knows where all the segments are, so automatically picks up if you've passed them on your route and places them all on your ride, complete with times, leaderboard, personal records, etc.
Not sure about the iPad, but you can either upload straight from garmin, or you can upload the GPX file.0 -
Strava is for comparing your rides with serious racing snakes

Didn't know you can upload from Garmin to Strave  I always end with Strava running on iPhone and my Garmin on bars as well....dooh :?
But yes Strava is great I tried couple other apps but Strava still stands out as the best so farFelt AR4

Yes Strava supports upload from Garming and all other GPS cycle computers.
You can't connect anything other than a camera to an iPad, so you will need a PC/laptop to use your Garmin data files.Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
Winter - Trek Madone 3.5 2012 with UDi2 upgrade.

i download from my edge 500 twice. first to garmin connect then to strava on my PC. then i can pull them down onto my ipad apps for both. cant download direct to ipad methinks.0

Sorry to high jack if you are a tight arse and just use an I phone 4 like me to get your data how long does it last before battery failure on average can you let it run for more than 3 hours or would I be devastated by having an empty battery and loosing all the data before finishing ride. :!:0
-
Dont know about the iphone but i recently ran strava on a well used 2yr old htc wildfire for nearly 6 hours. Probably would have gotten more if i had remembered to turn bluetooth and wifi off too.0

I get a good 4 hours on an iPhone. 5 if I turn the screen off sometimes.
I also have a "Powermonkey" portable charge thingy thatI can stick in my pocket for longer rides - with that I get up to 8 hours.0 -
iPhone 4s seems to be limited to about 4 hours even with screen off :?Felt AR4

Gonna test it tomorrow and just leave it running to see what battery life is like as my fitness is improving every week I may need to invest in a GPS device like a Garmin if the Phone can't last the distance. Bit ridiculous it doesn't last long0

I use Wahoo Fitness app on 4S and upload to strava via my laptop.
In my bike bag i carry USB charging lead so can charge phone when at parents/friends during beaks when on long ride.Graham

i use endomondo on my blackberry and then upload it to strava - i get about 8-9 hours of life on a full charge when its running0

I do Strava from time to time but it's ok, I can handle it, could stop if I wanted to...it's just that I keep coming back to it...it's the segments really, can't stop thinking about them...0

I just got back from a ride I hadn't done before, checked Strava only to see a loop segment recognised, went to see how I had done on it and was crushed when I was flat out last - with everybody else at least 6mph faster than me - and all within a gnat's ball hair of each other. All on the same day.
A bit of research and I found out it was part of a local road race circuit and the times were from this year's event.
I didn't feel so bad then....0 -

My HTC Desire will do 8hrs on Strava in Airplane mode, All you need running is GPS, and then just turn off Airplane when you finish to upload your data.0
-
Would it help turning an I phone 4s to airplane mode? I am wanting 6 hrs of usage roughly for an up and coming trip0

Should be same as for any other phone. So yes. I wasn't aware that GPS worked in airplane mode - but seeing as it's receipt and not broadcast, no reason it shouldn't.
Give it a go!0 -
Airplane mode doesn't pick up gps poo!0
-
You can turn data connection off which is the same thing0
