Been looking at getting a number of bikes included under the household insurance however there will not be a like for like or new for old replacement (the depreciation factor comes in to it), so maybe i'm better off insuring under a bike specific policy. Quite suprised BR hasnt got an insurance only discusion board. Anyway could you guys point me in the right direction, recommend a few companies

regards,

matt

It's going to come down to how much you are prepared to pay and whether it's worth it based on the value of the bikes, vs taking the risk and just go with the house insurance and hope the worst doesn't happen (after all, you still get something if it does and the insurance cost is low).

Myself I just ask myself the question - how likely is it any decent bike I own will get nicked? Once in my lifetime maybe? Twice if I'm really unlucky. Compare that with the cost of insurance over a lifetime.

Of course it depends if you can't do without a bike and whether you can afford to replace it from your own cash. But then if household will pay some of the cost, then I just go with that.

As above check your household insurance, ours covers upto £1500.

    Shop around house insurers.

I swapped to More than when i bought my spicy - 5k cover for several bikes or 1 upto that value. Anything over 1k or 1.5k you specify on the insurance (and it was cheaper than before too!!) - and your good for a few weeks abroad each year too.

Certainly cheaper than forking out for specialist insurance.
