Sometimes I can be such a stupid pratt

I have spent hours tracking down an annoying rattle on my Specialised.
I have had the front brakes off, checked the cables, removed the stem, checked the shifters and adjusted the aheadset countless times.
I finally tracked the rattle down to a loose inner tube nut this afternoon after checking the brakes and shifters yet again
Sometimes I am stunned by the depths of my stupidity. Thats an all time low for me, if I ignore the time I ripped the front drivers door off my Dads Rover when I was 10.

i once spent ages trying to figure out where a rattle was coming from and it turned out to be the clip on my glove bounce up and down!!www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0

+1 After 3 hours cleaning and stripping my bike and assuming Id fixed the rattle (i rode it and no noise) every time I rode to work there was this rattle - eventually took it to the LBS who had it for a week (its a really crap one) only to tell me nothing was wrong - I decided Id just have to live with it - next time I rode to work I realised the noise was my knees hitting my house keeys that I keep in my left jacket pocket when I ride. My emotions were    :? :evil:0

I set off for a ride the other day but couldn't clip in to the pedal, after having a good few goes at clipping in I realised I still had the cleat covers on my shoes :oops:0

the first thing to do when fitting new tubes is throw away the nuts...0
-
what are the damn purpose of those nuts it we dont need them?!0

They stop the valve disappearing into the tube when you attach the pump. Only really useful on wheels where the depth of the rim + tyre is close to the length of the valve.- - - - - - - - - -

everyone has DOH! moments
back in May I rocked up at a RR pretty. 30mins before the race I go for a warm up and hear a nasty scraping sound from my rear wheel. couldn't find the cause, time running out and all sorts of bad visions going through my head. I took a gamble on the bike and rode. Towards the end of the race another rider pointed out it was just the end of the front mech cable scraping against the rimCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -
Took a new spesh bike out for its first ride, And the front wheel had an awful rattle coming from it. Rang the LBS giving off all sorts of stink, accusing them of giving me a bike with loose spokes. Then realised it was the reflector in the spokes that was making the noise.Cube Attain SL Disc

An old seadog mate of mine always used to say the battleships he worked on had far too many parts, so whenever he stripped an engine, pump or generator he was never bothered about a few left over bits and bobs! Mind you one day when he cycled into work his chain fell off because he had not properly fitted a chain link.Giant XTC Pro-Carbon

As should be the case otherwise you'll be lugging round more valve stem than required.0 -

Maybe there's a market for 15mm valve stems, ha ha ha!- - - - - - - - - -

First thing in the bin - all reflectors, especially spoke ones as they can come off whilst cycling and mess up spokes or rear mech.
Second thing to go in the bin - dust caps and bolts on inner tube stems. Some tubes I've had don't even have a thread on them. They are not needed.Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
